How does Logitech People Count work?

Logitech people count sync works through the Logitech Sync platform, a cloud-based management system that collects occupancy and people count data from sensors embedded in Logitech meeting room devices like cameras and Spot sensors. These sensors detect and analyze room occupancy or headcount. The data is securely sent via authenticated, encrypted network protocols to the Logitech Sync cloud portal. Workplace picks up that data through APIs to visualize in live data views and present in dashboards.

How is Logitech People Count data reflected in Workplace Live Views?

Every minute, Workplace fetches headcount data from the Logitech Sync cloud portal for the configured sensors.

While you may expect an update in data every minute, data streams might experience some latency. To cover this, Workplace uses “decay configuration options” that act like a count down clock until the next refresh. In other words: The reason for using this decay is to indicate that the probability that the location is still occupied is lowering.

Decay Configuration options

Perhaps you would want to indicate in Workplace Live Occupancy View that if a Desk sensor has been triggered, the location is occupied for at least 2 more hours, so that colleagues and guests can go to lunch or drop by a meeting without having to fear that someone is clearing out their workplace? But at the same time you want to indicate that a meeting room has freed up as quickly as possible, so that it turns green (“available”/”not occupied”) and people can recognize this at a glance?

The Workplace back-end Studio configuration options have you covered: per room category, both the icon and the decay timer can be modified.

Info

Knowing that Logitech data is fetched every minute and allowing for some glitches, the timer can be set to anything higher than 5 minutes (5min being the minimum).
