After reading this article you will be able to:
- take into account and configure (some of the) system boundaries
Why are boundaries in place?
Most system boundaries are in place for performance or security considerations. A process might for example be stopped automatically after 1 or 2 minutes to prevent this process causing an issue because an infinite loop was entered. Limits regarding file size are in place for data size management. You don’t want one user to be able to upload a massive file that clogs up available storage space.
Tip
All boundaries are in place to ensure an optimal end user experience!
Auto-fill
- Some fields in Workplace use the auto-fill functionality. This means that after entering 3 or 4 characters, Workplace returns result suggestions in a scrollable list.
Limitation for uploading data
- Document types:
Document types supported: PDF
- Picture supported formats: png, jpg (often also svg)
logo and pictures have the best effect in landscape with aspect ratio 6:1
- Video supported format: mp4
if used as screensaver on a kiosk: URL needs to be publicly available and Audio on the device should be disabled, or remove the audio from the video
- Floorplan supported format: svg
- The default maximum file upload size is 50 MB
in some cases, as in Custom Themes in GO, the logo max size is 500 KB
- in WP app (see Customizing the Workplace App), custom logo max size is 500KB
Limits for displaying data
- Devices, reservable rooms etc are loaded in the background, based on performance this might change in future
- users: max 500 can be shown in the UI; all are part of export
- other data uses the lookup of 3 characters
Limits for exporting data
- Exporting report data (GO - Data Export):
-
The data is exported in a zipped .CSV (comma separated value) format file (not XLS). CSV file can be opened in any text editor or Excel.
But mind the restriction in Excel: no more than 1 million rows can be in one file. To process more than 1 million rows in Excel, the exported file must be split on several parts with no more than 1 million rows each (otherwise Excel will throw errors).
-
Timeout
- Go: no idle timeout, as long as page is open in browser
- Studio: timeout in place
- timeouts for API requests can cause errors (eg loading reservation data)
- different timeouts for import operations (eg user management)
Some tips:
- Retry what you were trying to do.
- If the timeout occurs when executing a query (run a report/ include), refine your search.
Non-production clusters: dev and staging
- Lower performance levels compared to our production servers.
- These servers do not have a guarantied uptime / availability.
Summary
- All limitation are in place to ensure an optimal end user experience.
