Set up Notifications for Sensor Health

Difficulty: expert

Learning Objectives

After reading this article, you’ll be able to:

  • Set up Device Notifications
  • Find Device Notifications

In the "Notifications" section in Workplace Backend Studio, it is possible to configure notifications for tracking the health of installed devices. Rules can be created per building or per administrator, as needed.

Inbox

‪In the Inbox, you’ll find all notifications that have been send for this tenant (configuration see below chapter “Notifications > Device Health”). You can see All or filter on read/unread messages.

‪Marking them as read is possible by selecting the checkbox in front of the message or clicking the icon behind.

Device Health

‪In Device Health, you can configure for which site or building notifications should be send and to whom.

When a notification is enabled, the administrator(s) receive a daily summary email containing the list of devices in "To check" or "Offline” state. For more information on Sensor Health Status, see How to monitor Sensor Health

A notification rule exists out of the below fields:

  1. Buildings (scope)
  2. Administrators
  3. Notification time and timezone
  4. Language for the email message

Info

It’s also possible to “Not select any Building”, which will create a Notification on ALL sensors linked in Studio for your tenant (so listing ALL To Check+Offline devices linked to buildings + not linked to any building)

Each rule can be enabled/disabled individually using a toggle button. It is also possible to enable/disable all rules at once.

It's also possible to run a rule immediately to verify the device health in a building instantaneously.

Example of send e-mail when Sensor Health Notifications are enabled

The list is distributed per building.

In the e-mail attachment, you'll find a csv file with all relevant information. This allows for filtering on device type, status, zone, building, floor, etc

Info

The information includes a column about battery levels. This will be filled in for LoRa sensors (for example Browan motion sensors and Milesight Comfort sensors) if they have connected to Workplace after 24 April 2025.

When the information on battery level states “N/A”, this can mean

  • the sensor does not operate on batteries
  • battery level status is not stored in Workplace (for example because it’s not a LoRa sensor)
  • the “last seen” date of the sensor lies before 24 April 2025.

Presented insights:

  1. At the top of the e-mail:
    1. overview of buildings listed in the e-mail, incl % on how many devices are online (out of total devices linked to that building)

    2. overview of devices status change since last 24h (out of devices listed in the email as being in To Check or Offline status)
  2. Per building:
    1. Total devices listed in the e-mail

    2. Devices in To Check status
    3. Devices in Offline status
    4. Devices in Offline or To Check status since 24h
