Energy meters and meter readings module activation and information

Info

This article is about activating this module as an implementation consultant. For more detailed information on how to manage or use the concepts in this module as an application manager or a user (for instance, details on how to create an object), see the related module in the application managers and/or Users part of this knowledge base: Application Managers / Users

1. Energy meters and meter readings in general

Energy meters and meter readings are essential for monitoring and managing energy consumption within an organization.

This involves capturing and analyzing data from energy meters to track usage patterns, identify inefficiencies, and ensure accurate reporting. Regular meter readings provide insights into energy performance, enabling informed decisions on energy optimization, cost reduction, and sustainability initiatives.

Effective energy monitoring is crucial for improving operational efficiency, meeting regulatory requirements, and supporting environmental goals by reducing energy waste and carbon emissions.

2. What is this module about

For more information on the content of this module, including detailed descriptions of some of the core components, see: Energy meters and meter readings in the 'Application Managers' section.

3. Why use this module

Energy meters can be used to register the meter readings within a building and as a result gain insights and overviews into energy consumption. New (empty) meter readings can also be generated automatically based on settings of the meter. This way, an overview of new meter readings to fill in will be available to users, reminding them to update the meter readings with the latest data.

3.1 Choices to be made within the module

There are no relevant choices to be made for this module when activating this module as an implementation consultant.

4. How to activate this module

As for every new module, use the ‘Module activation’ option on the administrator startboard (only available for level 2 and level 3 admins). For more general information about these 'Module activation' options, see Module activation

4.1 Prerequisites before activating this module

This module requires the Masterdata: Buildings and areas module to be activated first, since energy meters are always created within the context of a building.

4.2 Module activation

For this specific module activation, there are no settings to be determined. It is sufficient to directly start the module activation:

4.3 Data imports

When activating this module, some data imports become available, which can be used to quickly import relevant data into the system (as opposed to manually entering this data, which is also possible).

Relevant data imports become available in the module activation after the activation has been started. Default data imports can also be found on the administartor startboard (only for level 2 and level 3 administrators).

For more information on data imports in general, see: Data imports

If the Energy meters and meter readings module is activated, the following default imports become available:

Reference

Name

Description

FMB-F-084

Import meters

Via this import, the Energy meters can be imported

FMB-F-085

Import meter readings

Via this import, the historical meter readings can be imported, linked to the imported meters.

This is only relevant if the historical meter readings are relevant to be viewed via Asset.

4.4 System groups

When a module is activated, system groups can be assigned to user profiles. These system groups give users access to (a subset of) navigation menu options, startboard tabs, and tasks in the relevant workflow(s).

For more general information on user profiles, system groups, users, and the user profile dashboard, see: Authorizing users

For the Energy meters and meter readings module, the following system groups become available:

Reference

Name

Description

License needed

FMB-G019

Meter reading Manager

Group gives access to creating and editing meters and meter readings within a building

Full user

Via the 'User profile management' option on the administrator startboard, this system group can be assigned to existing user profiles or add them to newly created user profiles.

4.4.1 Relevant system groups from other modules:

For some modules, other (master data) modules might be of importance, in order to be able to fully use this module.
For Energy meters and meter readings, the master data module ‘Buildings and areas’ is relevant, therefore the following system groups could also need to be assigned to users (if not already done in the past) to be able to create and edit the relevant master data objects.

Name

Description

License needed

GOB-G007

Edit buildings and areas

Group gives create and edit rights on buildings and areas

Full user

When generating the user profiles, it is advised to include these groups or have dedicated profiles (and users) for these modules.

4.5 Navigation menu and startboard options

When a module is activated, the relevant navigation menu options become available to users with the correct authorizations (based on the system groups). Next, a module-specific key user startboard tab becomes available for that particular module and is visible depending on the user's authorizations. This tab gives users insights and day-to-day work overviews relevant to the specific module.

For more general information on the navigation menu and startboard, see: Navigation menu and Startboard

For the Energy meters and meter readings module, the following navigation menu options become available:

Navigation menu option

Available to system groups

Description

Meter readings to be filled in

  • Meter reading

An overview of al meter readings with an empty value (this overview will contain all meter readings from meters that have been setup to generate a new empty meter reading periodically, as a reminder for the user to fill in the actual meter reading)

5. Additional reports

For some modules, additional reports can be available via the ‘Report’ navigation menu option.
For the Energy meters and meter readings module, there are reports available via:

  • Navigation menu reports: A list of reports related to Energy meters available to the ‘Meter reading Manager’:

6. Additional settings and options after enabling

There are currently no additional settings for the Energy meters and meter readings module.

7. Additional information

No additional information currently.

8. User manual

For the user manual with a more step-by-step explanation of the process itself, see: Meters module for (end)users

9. Q&A

Q: Are there default integrations available for automatically importing the meter readings from smart meters?
A: No, there are no default integration available for this. A customer specific integration can be made. However, as Spacewell also has Spacewell Energy as a separate product, it might be interesting to look into that product in case of the requirements for using energy meters and meter readings go beyond the default options within Asset.
